Hi! I am Julie. I grew up moving every 2-3 years due to my dad’s United States Air Force Pilot career. My parents always embraced new places with excitement and positivity even when their 4 kids didn’t show the same enthusiasm. I remember every weekend, all piling into the van to embark on another day trip experience around Europe to explore another town, museum, monument, or attraction.
When I would complain about not liking a new place, my parents would remind me that you can’t come to learn about, know about, or love a place without getting out and seeing it, exploring it, or experiencing it.
California is where I raised my family. We loved heading to the beach but California is much more than beaches and we loved exploring everywhere. My kids came to call my day trips, explorations, and experiences… Mom’s Weird Adventures. We, not only, loved the touristy places but also loved finding unusual, not touristy, and off-the-beaten path places.
When I moved to the Pacific Northwest, from California, I immediately missed the sun. My kids were grown and married and didn’t make this move with us. The grey, wet weather in the Seattle area had me feeling trapped, physically and emotionally. Many advised me, “There is no bad weather just bad gear”. So, with my parent’s example of embracing a new place with excitement and positivity, my selection of outerwear increased and Mom’s Weird Adventures continued. At first, I had many solo adventures, but as the short and long Pacific Northwest days went on, I found fellow adventurers to join me.
I still dread the wet and grey, however, when the sun does break through the clouds…GLORIOUS!
Come adventure with me!
